54 Paper Collages

While Bove’s works often take the form of abstract sculptures, her practice is rooted in a deep imaginative engagement with imagery drawn from everyday life. Since the beginning of her career, she has surrounded herself with printed images, books, and scraps of material, which she continually rearranges in shifting compositions on walls and tables in her studio. Her sources range widely, from art-historical catalogues and scientific reference books to avant-garde periodicals and vintage Vogue magazines.

Recently, Bove permanently fixed elements from this trove into a group of paper collages, dating them 2000–2025 to indicate the span of time over which she worked with the material. At times, the artist pierces her scavenged images with circles, diamonds, and squares—a compositional system of abstract geometries that recurs at different scales throughout this installation. Arranged in a grid that forms a single artwork for the exhibition’s duration, the collages present both a kaleidoscopic slice of visual culture and an index of Bove’s creative process.
